Lake Pedder on show at TMAG

One of the jewels of Tasmania’s natural environment, Lake Pedder and its celebrated beach feature in the Tasmanian Museum + Art Gallery’s exhibition of 100 years of Landscape Photography, running until October 18.

In an exhibition of historic images of Tasmania’s wild landscapes over the past century, photographs of the original Lake Pedder reveal a place of haunting beauty and geographic significance. The Tasmanian Museum + Art Gallery’s exhibition – EXPOSED LANDS: 100 Years of Tasmanian Landscape Photography – surveys a century of photographic history depicting Tasmania’s nature. The Museum says: “It shares perspectives of the island, lutruwita, as Aboriginal country as well as terrain charted by colonists’ exploration, adventure and exploitation.  These images reveal an island State through the lens of landscape, capturing meanings of place, nature’s beauty and resources, as well as exposing shifting conceptions of the natural world and boundaries of the photographic medium.” Some images are developed from wet-plate processes and albumen prints, original cibachrome prints, as well as contemporary digital works. The exhibition runs until October 18 at TMAG, Dunn Place, Hobart.
